Technical Editing
I'd love to help you with your next quilt project! I'm an experienced tech editor and quilter and I LOVE reading quilt patterns and quilt related materials.
Quilt Pattern Editing:
I can help you make sure your pattern is accurate and easy to follow. I will review your pattern and provide feedback and suggestions on the following:
overall pattern flow (how easy the pattern is to follow)
quilt math (including fabric requirements, cutting charts, piece counts, block sizes, finished quilt size, etc.)
diagrams and instructions
grammar, spelling, etc
any items / issues you have asked me to specifically take note of
I prefer editing patterns in pdf format. I will add notes and suggestions directly to the digital pdf so you can see exactly where I’m referencing.
Extra Services (provided upon request):
I can make a test block using your pattern (no charge for materials used)
I can write your fabric requirements and cutting instructions
Quilt Blog Posts or Course Materials:
I can help you make sure your creative blog post or course materials are easy to follow and understand. If you are including tutorials or patterns, I can provide a detailed review to ensure makers can easily follow your instructions.
Pricing & Payment:
$40/hour (billed in 15 minute increments)
I will typically spend 2-3 hours the first time I review a quilt pattern. More complex patterns can take longer.
Please contact me for a time estimate for other documents.
My preferred payment method is Zelle. (If your bank does not work with Zelle, an alternate payment method can be provided.)
Scheduling & Turnaround Time:
I like to schedule in advance and usually plan at least 1 - 2 weeks out (or more). We can work together to pick a timeframe that works for you based on my availability.
Once I receive your draft pdf, I can usually have edits back to you in 5 - 10 business days. Longer or more complex projects may take more time. I will confirm timing when scheduling.
Need edits quickly? Ask me about rush services (may incur an additional fee).
Confidentiality:
I will keep your work completely confidential. This includes all content, techniques, methods, designs, etc. I understand that your pattern is your work and it will not be shared or used without your permission.
I expect the same courtesy with the suggestions and edits that I provide. You are, of course, encouraged to use my suggestions, but I ask that you do not share my notes without my permission.
"Jamie helps me polish my patterns by catching errors not just in math, but also in logistics, grammar, and graphics/aesthetics. She has saved me from publishing embarrassing mistakes that I just can’t catch myself! I don’t want to publish a single pattern before running it by Jamie first. If you want to ensure your customers buy the right amount of fabric, understand the sewing steps clearly, and actually finish making your patterns, you should work with Jamie, too."
